Welcome to the September/October edition of the Bui Bolg newsletter!  During the most colourful season of the year we enjoy a time with likewise diversified events and assignments. We are especially happy about our strong involvement in Billy Roche's upcoming play in Wexford! Also we appreciate all the inspiration we recently found at the BIG IDEAS Conference at the UK Centre for Carnival Arts. Should the days grow shorter now, we ensure to brighten them up for you!

National Campaign for the Arts

On the National Day of Action; September 17th - Bui Bolg, Elizabeth Whyte (Executive Director Wexford Arts Centre), and Billy Roche (Playwright) met local TD's Sean Connick and Brendan Howlin to participate in the National Campaign for the Arts. All over Ireland several artists and companies organised different events to support the campaigns aim to underline the important role of the arts in society and politics.

SE Women in Business Awards

Lucy Medlycott recently won the 'Excellence in Marketing Award' handed over by Breege Cosgrave representing the Wexford County Enterprise Board. On Friday September 17th the South East Women in Business Conference and Awards took place in the Tower Hotel, Waterford. Lucy was selected out of twenty-five enterprising women from the South East of Ireland, representing Carlow, Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Wexford and Waterford.

Culture Night

On September 24th Bui Bolg took part in Culture Night in both Wexford and Dublin with some of our most popular characters such as the Joust and the Polar Bear rambling through the streets to entertain the crowd. During the night several places all over Ireland opened their doors for the public supported by performances, tours, readings, concerts, and exhibitions.

Bui Bolg Youth Group

Just recently the Youth Group received funding from the Arts Council through Yes (Young ensembles scheme) for putting up a producion with Circus Gerbola and Ken Fanning from Tumble Circus. This promises to be a highly unique and exciting experience for all the Youth members. It will be showcased at the Sonraigh Youth Dance Festival and the Wexworld Sci Fi and Fantasy Fiction Festival on November 27th in Wexford.

Lay Me Down Softly

Bui Bolg built the unique stage design for "Lay Me Down Softly" by Playwright Billy Roche, which will run at the Wexford Arts Centre from October 12th- 23rd. Set in 1962 the audience finds itself in a boxing booth of an old irish travelling carnival with an appearance of faded opulence and glory.

Marlay Park Haunted Walk

On October 24th once again the spooky forest of Marlay Park will turn into a haunted walk during the time of Samhain. This has become a perennial favourite with locals and visitors who are invited to dress up themselves.
