Main Content Inline Small

Next Thursday, March 10th marks the Dublin debut of the new production of “Lay Me Down Softly” at the Project Arts Centre.

Set in 1962 the audience finds itself in a boxing booth of an old Irish travelling carnival during a time of faded opulence and glory. Buí Bolg will be treating the audience to an authentic road show experience through the costume and set design for this ambitious production which has begun touring all around Ireland. Aside from Dublin, the play will tour to Waterford and Galway with more to come. Lay Me Down Softly is written by Wexford born playwright Billy Roche, best known for penning "The Wexford Trilogy".

Paddy's Day 2011

Main Content Inline Small

Preparations are well under way at Buí Bolg for the annual St. Patrick’s Festival in Dublin, the biggest parade in the country with half a million estimated to be attending.

This year’s parade is inspired and based on the newly written short story, “Brilliant” by Roddy Doyle. “Brilliant” is about banishing the black dog of depression over Dublin city and bringing the city’s funny bone back.

All of Buí Bolg’s newly devised uplifting floats and humorous costumes are to demonstrate this and will be carried off with the help of more than 100 of Buí Bolg’s Youth Group members. Definitely an event not to be missed, we look forward to seeing you there!

Branwen Workshop

Main Content Inline Small

From the 22nd – 25th of February Buí Bolg’s Lucy Medlycott and Caoimhe Dunn travelled to Carmarthen in Wales, giving Welsh students of Trinity St. David's University a workshop designing horses heads. These will feature in an upcoming production of Branwen based on a Welsh legend of the same name.

The project is part of the Coracle program which runs an exchange between Trinity St. David’s and Carlow I.T. along with other practitioners of the arts in S.E. Ireland and S.W. Wales. Buí Bolg will be teaching students to integrate elements of puppetry to the musical. Lucy will be returning to the college in March with Colm Lowney as the escorts of a brand new puppet that will feature in Branwen. Trinity St. David’s students can expect a crash course in puppetry and animatronics from the seasoned Buí Bolg pros!
